Shortness

Rise and shine... bright and early while it's still cool for an outside adventure. Last week's heat index was 107 which made me really appreciate the Summer hibernation process.

Today, I really wanted to go swimming at the human pool for knee physical therapy. My Mom goes swimming almost every day and never takes me. What the heck?

Since I run faster than the speed of light, along with my bionic-ness, pretty darn sure I can swim fast too. It would be fun to challenge Mom to a swim race, like Olympic Gold Medalists Mark Spitz or Michael Phelps. Definitely would leave her in my wake.

Yes! Almost there... the blue, clear water was just on the other side of the fence. But there was one MAJOR problem! Shortness!! Not able to reach the door knob. Ugh! Where's Brandy?... She's so much taller, surely she could reach the door handle.

Plan B... Maybe there's a hole in the fence? Fiddle-dee-dee, no luck. Hmmm, plan C? Will have to put my thinking cap on for this one.

Secret Mission

I'm secretly scouting my own adventures for Brandy and I to explore. Today, on the way to the Apple store (not the fruit kind, but the geek kind), I discovered an endangered Whooping Crane.

This all came about when my Mom went floating at the pool yesterday... I escaped the confinement of surgical restrictions and went sleuthing on the computer (mucho gracias to my amigo Puglet for the sleuthing inspiration). Lo and be hold, to my surprise, Brandy hijacked Short Tails. My Mom, Brandy, Toad and Camp Director had been on secret adventures with out me. What the heck... huh...suurre, scouting new swimming hole adventures where I could be fish or Loch Ness Monster food. I DON'T think SO!

I also discovered this cool squirty-thing-a-ma-gig. The bubbling, squirting water was nice and refreshing, it even had a little pug size fountain thingy that I could drink from. No worries about being about being bait here.

Water Duck not a Land Duck

Brandy here, filling in for the mending Suki. She is making great progress to her bionic-ness.

I want to give a huge shout out to the new followers on Short Tails. Suki will be so excited when I share the news. Knowing her, she will spin with excitement. Don't know how she can spin so fast clockwise and not fall over from the dizzies.

Today, I wanted to check out a new adventure place for us to go when Suki is healed. Couldn't wait to get to Mills Pond in Wells Branch and swim with the Water Ducks, not to be confused with Land Ducks.
Not sure if Suki will want to swim in the pond, the ducks are nice, but rumor has it from a fisher-man-human, he caught a 35# catfish (what?... cats have gills?... is this how they purr?). That's 3 times as big as Suki, she would be a snack for the swimming gilled cats. If the fish are that big, maybe a Loch Ness Monster could be lurking in the water too. My little buddie is the best, don't want her being fish/monster food. Note to self, need to have a talk with Suki, she will understand about the dangers of big fish, she watched Shark Week with her Mom.

Please don't tell Suki that Camp Director went on the Pond Adventure, she would be happy he went, but would be so very disappointed that she didn't get to see him.

Tell next time, keep sending good thoughts for Suki's healing.

Outside Physical Therapy

This week was monumental - knew it was going to be stupendous when I spotted my pink harness and leash. The excitement couldn't be contained, commence a spinning cycle... yes... like the fast speed of the clothes washer. Please don't tell my Orthopedic Surgeon. Actually, I'm discovering my bionic knee super powers, I can spin so much faster now... almost like Wonder Woman (we even spin in the same direction). Walking up and down, back and forth "the hill" was wonderful; knee is getting stronger, better, faster.

To document this moment, my Mom is using a new lens thing-a-ma-jig on her camera. Thanks to a very nice recommendation, the new lens makes me look crisp in all my 13 pound cuteness. But for some reason, the new lens cuts off my ankles and paws... could it be user error?

White Lab Coat

Surprise # 1...
Could it be...? It was!... a surprise adventure from the house since my surgery two weeks ago. It was to one of my favorite places... the Veterinary Hospital. This means lots of attention, hugs and kisses, plus I get to show off my cute-ness. "Milk-it-for-all-its-worth" technique works really good at the Hospital.

Surprise # 2...
Kudos to my wonderful White Lab Coat Orthopedic Surgeon for his knowledge on making my knees "bionic".

Surprise # 3...
Received awesome news! Range of motion in knee is great, sutures were removed, plus I can start agility in about three months. Where's my calendar? Need to start marking off the days... like I do for Santa Claus.

Surprise # 4...
No more recovery/healing room (aka kennel) and now I have graduated to the more spacious bathroom with a kiddie gate while Mom is working.

Surprise # 5... Last but not least...
After all that great news, a really nice lady talked with me about physical therapy. She gave me homework to display on the frig. I didn't tell her this, but from my perspective, its not "physical therapy", instead its training to reach all my Bionic-ness ability for agility.

...Better than she was before... better, stronger, faster....

Where's the Water?

Milk-it-for-all-its-worth opportunity is still working. Convinced my Mom raft lounging/floating at the Human swimming pool would help with my recovery from surgery. Mr. Google says Hydro-therapy does wonders after surgery.

OK, What?!... where's the water...?! Huh... Ended up lounging on the patio instead of the pool. This is NOT what I had in mind.

Kudos to Brandy for doing a great job on her Alone Adventure. Thanks for filling in and glad to hear the yucky snake and bumble bee didn't get you or your Mom.

Recovery process is going really good. Sutures will be removed next week and will have a physical therapy consultation. Mom says this is great; walking more will increase my leg strength for Becoming Bionic.

Alone Adventure

Hi everyone. While Suki is recovering from knee surgery, I will be filling in since she is taking a leave of absence. Not to fret, she will be making occasional appearances with updates of her recovery.

I'm scouting out new adventures for us to visit once she's all mended and becomes bionic.

Today was a real adventure! Almost got bit by a water moccasin! Thank goodness my human saw it first! Then a huge bumble bee started chasing her. She was doing one fancy dance to get away from it. I wish I had those moves. With her agility, she was able to get out of harms way. Suki's Mom felt the affects of humidity and wanted to melt. All of this before 9 AM! Plus, Suki stayed home, sleeping in, had breakfast in bed... got a massage, ice therapy... ok what's wrong with this picture?
The morning swim was nice, but it wasn't the same with out the "Wirey Cookie".
Note to self... breakfast in bed, massage... will try "milk-it-for-all-its worth" opportunity. sounds like a plan.

Becoming Bionic

While I was at the hospital, a technician told me something extrasuperspecial! I will be bionic! What?.. Like Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers? Are you serious?...Does this mean I will run faster than the human eye can see?

The process started two years ago with the first surgery...Luxating Patella of my right knee. After recovering from surgery, I discovered running faster than speeding light. Unfortunately, today is the first day home of a six week recovery process for the same surgery on my other knee.

Don't tell my Mom... at the hospital, I came up with a plan... its the perfect, "Milk-it-for-all-its-worth" opportunity... probably can get toys, cookies, stuffed things, you name it, I should get it. Decided to try it on the technicians first ...hook, line and sinker!!...no toys or cookies...instead they held and talked to me, toted me around...extra special care for having knee surgery... Aha moment, this plan will work!

It works... new comfy, cozy bed for healing, recovery room, new toy and a stick that was so yummy, but my Mom couldn't stand the smell.
My (human) Grandma had her knee done too, she says we are "knee buddies". Wish we could do our physical therapy together.

Off to ice therapy...

Meatball Pill

Duck and potato meatball, what did I do to deserve this special treat? I never get meatballs. Could it be that I have a bum, good knee? The meatball pill took my mind off being a gimpy, tri-pod pug. Was there a hidden pill in the meatball?

Don't like being a three legged pug, I run fast, really fast. Guess this means agility is on the back burner for now.

The Creek was so much fun this morning, Aunt Toad was so proud of me today... I ran faster than speeding light thru the water before I was gimpy.
Brandy had a grand time too, she discovered a stick in the water (it was bigger than me). Stick?... no way... it was a branch or a tree! She even held it up with her mouth. Brandy has special powers that I didn't know existed.
Will try my special powers.... well.... its not working...

Neena says "Get the cold pack, elevate it". Sounds like good advice. Off to rest my weary, good knee.

Agility and Poundage

One of my favorite places to visit is the Vet. Yes, it sounds crazy, but I LOVE to go to the vet! They are the nicest Doctors and Staff, plus I receive lots of attention and hugs.

Dr. D said the extra poundage has found me once again. Darn, have to cut back on my treats. Good news, only need to loose one pound, plus that means more time swimming and running. While I was running around the exam room, telling everyone hi, Dr. D asked my Mom if she thought about entering me in agility since I'm so agile. Hmm... what's that?... Agility... Agile? I know I run faster than speeding light, is that the same thing?

Could this be agility and agile? Are extra points awarded in agility for ears standing straight up? If so, do I hear winner!!? When running, my ears do funny things, it just shows that I'm really having an awesome, fantastic time.

Or could this be agility? Brandy has perfected the relaxation process of cooling off in the water. She says the current of the water feels like a massage. Notice the intensity of Brandy's stare, she is keeping a close eye on me to make sure I'm ok and the two big unruly big dogs don't come back and scare me.

Will have to consult with my friend Mr. Google about agility and agile.

Pug Stock Surprise

It was going to be a stellar day when I saw Aunt Toad, Aunt Jane Ann and Camp Director... what a great surprise, no one told me Camp Director would be going to Pug Stock too...I was so psyched that I couldn't contain the excitement, out came a funny sounding "bark", not sure what the heck it was... my Mom said it was a howl.

Once we arrived at Pug Stock, I couldn't believe my big brown eyes, so many groovy pugs, all shapes and sizes. For the first time, I started a game of chase with pugs (not a Golden Retriever - please don't tell Brandy). Since I'm faster than the speed of light, I left them in my dust.
Pug Rescue of Austin is hip at finding forever homes for pugs.

Catch ya later.

For ME! Just for ME!

I can't believe it! There it is... right before my very own big brown eyes... I received an email addressed to ME, not my Mom. She gets plenty of her own. But one for ME!

It was from a handsome Pug that lives clear across the United States. He emailed me! He called me cute, not like a button or a bug, cute like CUTE.

Now my day is complete... sigh...

Surprise Hiking Adventure

Instead of sleeping in, my Mom got me up really early for a surprise hiking adventure. She explained we had to get up when it was still cool outside, Pugs and certain best friend, Brandy, will melt in hot weather. (If sugar melts in the rain, guess that's true for hot weather too). That explains why I have been in the house so much, I kept hearing the term, "Summer hibernation".

When Aunt Toad picked us up, It was strange, what, no Brandy...what the heck..? She always goes... hope she's ok. Then the humans explained, it's a scouting mission, to make sure the creek was safe after all the rain from Mr. Hurricane Alex. Lucky me, hiking twice in one day. Felt bad for Brandy, only once for her. The humans were looking out for her safety, since she runs to the water at first sight. Don't tell her this, but she looks like an Otter when she swims.

I'm still working on getting use to being splashed...

We had a fun morning celebrating the 4th of July. Hopefully Brandy won't stress much tonight with the neighborhood fireworks.

P.S.
While hiking on trails, watch out for these thing-a-mig-jigs, it made Aunt Toad jump really high! Thought she was going to land in the tree tops.

Persevering patience

Celebrating Freedom.

Happy 4th of July! Stay safe and buckle up when traveling.
