The Farm

The Farm! Everything is so green, at home everything is brown and crunchy. Mom explained at home we are in a severe drought while the Midwest had experienced torrential rain earlier in the season. Definitely know now the weather is absolutely, positively broken. And in about 5 months, The Farm will be covered in snow.

The weather man used the term "heat dome" that is covering most of the country; the Farm was encompassed by the dome. This means pug melting weather. Instead of hiking thru the woods as previously planned, we embarked on a different mode of transportation, "hiking" via the air-conditioned comforts of my Uncle's truck. Since we were on the Farm, no traffic (except for the potential wild life that would be crossing the trail), Mom wasn't driving, I didn't have to ride in my carrier. Lucky me, I got to ride on her lap & look out the window. Mom tried to take pictures, but since we were on a bumpy, dirt trail, most of them came out blurry. By the way, rumor has it; the elusive snipe resides in the woods. I kept a keen eye out, no luck spotting the creature. My friends, has anyone ever encountered a snipe?

After leaving The Woods, we headed to The Big Tree, which is proudly, deserving of it's name. The 400 - 450 plus year old post oak tree has branches that gracefully touch the ground, this make for easy climbing. Mom said the fork of the tree is large enough to hold six grown adults. Just think, The Big Tree was here before internet, cell phones, and Me...

Edamame Field

Mom carried me thru the dreaded, Giant Fox Tails to the corn field, she didn't want the bristles damaging my big brown eyes. As she was carrying me, she whispered in my ear, listen closely, you can hear the corn grow. Standing really still, not even a wag of the tail and no a hint of a breeze, I heard the corn grow. It sounded like a quiet popping noise.

Mom also said corn has ears, sure.... I didn't see any ears.

  1. Oh, Suki, the Farm is so cool! I wish I would've been there with you. The first picture of you in front of the orange flowers is my new favorite...so beautiful! You look so happy and are smiling! Does the corn really make noises when it grows? There are tons of fields around our town, so maybe we'll have to visit one...if the weather cooperates!
    Love,
    Payton
PS. I have never seen a snipe.

  3. Hi Payton,
The Daylilies were really pretty. The weather was melting, I was so looking forward to exploring The Woods by paw, next time.

Yes, you can hear the corn grow... Just go into the field, several rows deep, on a day with no wind or breeze & listen.

    See you back at camp.

    Hugs,
    Suki

  4. Hi Oisín,
The Farm is awesome. I wanted to run & explore The Woods but it was to hot. It would be awesome to visit in the winter and play in the snow!

  5. What a great place to visit even under the heat dome! It's been 100 degrees here, too, very pug melting weather! We like you in the corn photo.

  6. Looks like you're having a great time. My mom grew up "city", but spent summers with country cousins, complete with corn. That is so cool that you could hear it growing. Was it so hot that it made popcorn?

  7. It's awesome to see where food really comes from. Tell your family thank you for growing it to feed the rest of us.
Hope this heat breaks soon! Stay cool.

  9. Hi Gracie,
Thank goodness the corn wasn't popping, I wish it was, but I'm allergic to corn.

  10. Hiya Sukes!

I'm with Payton, no snipe sightings here. Not sure I'd really know a snipe if I saw one though, so maybe I have?

Anyway. The Farm is so superGREEN! I don't think I've ever seen anything so green. What a cool adventure!!

I've never heard corn or any other kind of vegetable talk. My human said something about children in the corn... children of the corn? Something like that. Maybe it's the children talking? Either way, kinda freaky.

Good luck not melting. My human wore fleece on our cow hike this morning, so no heat dome happening here in CA. She says you can send any unwanted warmth west. Please.

  11. Hi Pug,

Can we trade weather? Maybe not, since you are use to cooler weather, the heat maybe to hot for you, I don't want you to melt.

Children of the corn sounds spooky.

    Hugs,
    Suki
